New York Player Scratches $1 Million

Friday 13th is a notoriously lucky day but not for Michael Levy as it was the day he won $1 million on a lottery scratch card. It’s day most of us hope will pass quickly but Friday 13th February is likely to be a day to remember for this lucky gentleman.

He works the night shift and uses scratch cards as a way to stay awake through the small hours. While working his routine shift at the Bronx construction site he scratched off a winning Holiday Cashword ticket to find he was a $1 million winner.
The cashword is an established lottery game and Mr Levy says he chooses that one because he figures everyone else is purchasing tickets for the newer lottery games. He rushed home to his wife after the shift to show her the lucky million dollar ticket.

Mr levy intends on paying off some debts with his winnings and buying a new house in Queens for him and his family. He was presented with the check during a ceremony held at Tavern on the Green on February 24th 2009.
He will receive just over $600,000 after taxes are deducted and no doubt he’ll be sure that Friday 13th is now the luckiest day in his life and won’t be dreading the next one coming around.

Powerball Lottery up to $150 million

It’s another rollover for Americas Powerball Lotto pushing the lottery jackpot up to a staggering $150 million. It’s been several weeks since the lottery produced a winner and now the jackpot is reaching stratospheric proportions.
In Saturdays Powerball Lottery draw there were no jackpot winners across any of the many participating US states. Not one single ticket matched all the winning numbers which were 13, 31, 41, 45, 46 and the red Powerball was 21.
The next drawing on the lottery will be Wednesday 25th February and that jackpot will be worth an astounding $150 million.

Lottery Retailers Arrested

Several Lotto retailers have been arrested in Fresno, California after a series of police raids in the area. Lottery officials organised the raids on several mini marts in the area after undercover investigators found that the suspects cheated customers by lying about winning tickets.

A few months ago officers posing as customers tested the mini marts on their honesty and more than a dozen store owners failed by claiming tickets were not winning ones when they were. The retailers told the would-be customers that the tickets were worthless then in fact they kept the winnings – some as much as $1,000 – for themselves.

Often players are in a hurry or have trouble checking their own numbers and in these instances they are trusting the lottery retailer to tell the truth but unfortunately some are not playing by the rules.
Many lottery players when asked stated that they had actually stopped playing at the store as it was unlucky for them, and now those players must be wondering if in fact the store was luckier than they thought and if in fact they won amounts that they are not aware of.
